About Us

Cecy and Travis Holcomb established Holcombville Pottery in 2007, with a mission to create hand-made functional pottery for everyday use and special occasions.

Cecy Holcomb earned her B.F.A. in Studio Art with a specialization in Ceramics in 2006. Travis oversaw the construction of the studio while Cecy completed her education at Texas State. The studio is located in San Marcos, Texas, and is open by appointment. Contact cecyholcomb@yahoo.com to visit the studio.

Technique

Cecy’s work is primarily wheel-thrown on a potter’s wheel, then it is altered, carved or slip decorated, and fired in an oxidation atmosphere. She uses stoneware and porcelain clay bodies to create her forms, and Cecy makes all her colorful glazes.  Her forms are inspired by traditional and organic forms.

Aguas Frescas Series

Aguas Frescas are the fruit-infused drinks people sell at many festivals or Mexican restaurants. Cecy wanted to capture the essence of having a refreshing drink in a personal setting; a backyard deck vs. festival grounds; a ceramic pitcher vs. a large glass jar; and a ceramic cup vs. a Styrofoam cup. Aguas Frescas consumed in Styrofoam cups do not give the same quality of experience as holding hand-made ceramic cups. She hopes that for some, it brings back some nostalgia, and for the rest, it's an introduction to an experience of enjoying cool refreshing drinks in hand-made ceramic cups. Agua Frescas brings back memories of Cecy’s youth when her mother would make large pitchers of Agua de Limón(lemon/lime), Agua de Sandía (watermelon), or Agua de Melόn (cantaloupe).

Folklorico Series

The Folklorico series focuses on the movement through the vessel form and its relationship with the movement of Mexican Folkloric dancers as they are leaning, turning, or twirling around each other. She also wants to highlight the colors of the skirts by layering several glazes. She wants to communicate the Spirit of Dance through these vessels and reflect joy and sensuality between partners. Cecy created this series to pay tribute to her mother and her love of Folkloric dance, and also to capture the vibrant colors of the skirts. Cecy's mother posing in her Folkloric costumes is relevant to how happy she was dancing.About Us
